Looking For A Job [Help]

Hey guys I need help as to where would be a good place to get a job at (casual.) I'm 16 and would prefer to work in retail over fast food.

Any help would be gladly appreciated.

Also for it to be around the south-western sydney area, thanks.
Go to ur local shopping centre and start handing out ur resume.
Try also giving your resume online. look at what fast-food places have jobs open and apply for them.
Go to EB games.
I don't think you should just restrict it to online, a lot more people get jobs by handing their resumes over the counter. Just walk around to your local shopping centre etc. and ask whether they have a job vacancy and hand in your resume. Also places like Big W and Myer usually accept online applications. Good luck
Fast food is generally the easiest if you want a job fast. Otherwise, your best bet would be handing out your resume to as many places as you can and hope for the best lol.
I'd looked at DSE, JBHIFi, EB Games, Game . They all seem to have no vacancies in my area. Do you think they might but just wouldn't advertise it online?

absolutely, 60% of jobs aren't advertised at all
I thought those techy shops only hired older people ?_?

I know that Toys 'R' Us won't let anyone younger than 18 work in their electronics/games section.

Does your lawn need mowing too? What about your pool, I'll clean that too?
Try Officeworks and other retail places like Kmart/Target, iirc they have forms online you can print and fill out, then go into store and hand in.
I have a job for you....

Go make me some coffee :P
you'll easily get a job at DSE because whenever i was looking at a laptop i always got some young 16,17 year old who had no idea.
The new year isn't a great time to look for retail jobs.

Most retailers would have taken on extra staff for Christmas. They would usually keep any of them to fill staffing gaps early in the new year.

I'm not saying that there are no jobs, but I'd imagine that there aren't many.

This. Back when I was searching for a job I made a list of all the patisseries within a 30km radius and cold-called them. One of the people I called/emailed referred me to the place where I eventually did get hired.
Man, what previous experience do you have? If you're planning on doing retail, jbhifi. game. DSE are all top of the barrel. You should be looking at clothing stores as those shops hire alot, and as soon as you've gotten that experience, then those other shops will look at you.

they'd rather people who want to sell things, rather than people who want to play with gadgets and games

that's precisely the reason no youngin should be hired in those jobs. It doesn't bother me that much seeing older idiots working in those sections. Its the young pretentious kids that think they have a qualified opinion on tech that annoys me.

I know for a fact the best way to get a job at coles is to apply online but then give the reference number from your online app with your resume to the manager. It more then doubles your chance of getting a job there, since they see you have initiative and have already talked to you.
It's very hard to get. Job at JB without prior retail work. I recently found out that there were 350 applicants for when my current job was advertised. Out of 350 people, only I got the job.

Then everyone at work asked me "what store were you originally from?". Everyone was shocked to her I was new. It's not easy apparently.

EB games usually hire young, apply in store and online to show them that you are interested. Be confident when you present yourself to people, sell yourself. Make them want to have you as a worker. Good luck.
Join the Army and they'll turn you into a chef... You'll need to be 17 and you'll need your parent's permission, but it's pretty good pay all your medical expenses are paid for, you'll have some awesome experienes and get to travel!

I'm guessing you went on the weekend?

A lot of retail stores put the 'kids' on the weekend due to the higher pay rates on weekends,
Go to supermarkets or shops where a lot of younger people are employed
my coles will need to hire very soon due to the fact school is going back and most of the yr 12 students will only be working about 1 shift per week down from about 4

Alright, I think I'll write up a resume tomorrow and hand it to as many stores as I can.

Oh and the only real experience I have is building / repairing computers at my uncles shop. But I'm sure I can put that down as "Computer Technician" ^_^
