I thought we could have a universal thread on all things concerning HDTV's, from plasmas to lcds. Ask questions, offer advice, announce up coming TV's all in one place. Please don't troll though and maybe back up your info with some links or pics.

Also post what TV you use and for what, if someone else owns the same TV you might be able to help them with whatever enquires.

My current TV is a Panasonic GT30, will post a pic soon.
I have in my room a 41" Vivo plasma, Which i mainly use for gaming. Never had any problems with it :) Can say i've never heard of the brand, But it's pretty reliable (for me atleast)

edit: Found the specs.

Product Name: Color Plasma TV
Color System: PAL/BG
Power Supply: 100V-240V~
Frequency: 50/60Hz
Power: 350W

Not sure if that's good or bad haha ohwell =D
mine is a sony bravia something or other i dunno

it does a good job
Got an old 32" Teach LCD in the bedroom and recently got a Samsung 42" LED for the lounge room, that LED still freaks me out on how thin it is [MOG]
yeah ill be getting a new one soonish i hope

As long as your happy with it thats what matters most :)

Pointless me telling you otherwise.

I want to add links, pics, calibration tips whatever here though for people looking to purchase TVs in the future and to help them make the right decision and be aware of all the technical side of things plus learn more myself as i go.

I'm interested to know what TVs you guys are using, problems you may have had etc.
my family are happy with a bunch of sony tvs

Is it a Samsung Series 9. Feck they are SUPER SLIM [WTF]

I have a Samsung Series 7 58" Plasma in the lounge. LG 32" LCD in the bedroom, and a 22" Samsung LED in the baby room. All are fantastic. Am surprised at how thin the 58" is for a plasma.

Only problem I have had is with the Samsung 58". I had it replaced twice.
First time cos it kept turning off by itself and then other times would not turn off at all.
2nd time was because I had to get a replacement for the replacement because the one I got had a smashed screen when I got it home. Pain in the but cost it was a 4 hour round trip [Rage]
Lesson: always check what's in the box before making a 4 hour road trip. :P

But yea, that would have serious p'ed me off!
I have the latest Bravia LED (not sure the model number off the top of my head, but the high end one) in a 40". Got a ripper deal from JB-HIFI at Knox City and couldn't say no.

I don't know why, but I've always loved the Bravia line - the high end Bravia line at least.

Yeah I know what a dumb dumb.....but in saying that the bloke from Harvey Normans who took it out of the box and put in to the ute also did not check it either. And Im am sure now that he was the one who broke it, cos he lifted it off the loading dock and placed it on the ground with a thud.... Still my bad for not checking [Facepalm]

@ Greenthumb: My mate has a Vivo plasma. And has nothing but problems with it. Also had to replace it.
It is a Dick Smith only brand. You must have got a good'un!

you slap hands with hifive cat
ive got a 42 inch, 1080i phillips plasma. even though, its only 1080i, i still love it, and would take it over a tonne of new tvs i see coming out today.

plus it also has ambilighting, which is rad. particularly in explosions, seeing your whole wall light up orange is awesome.
@MicDaMan Dick Smith brand? Well atleast i learnt something new about my tv :) Sucks for your friend though, But i guess i might have gotten lucky =D

Exclusive to Dick Smith yes!!!
I had a I a Dick Smith DSE brand tv once [Facepalm]
Mate has a Vivo too and no issues :P

Kogan are pretty hard to look past. I was fairly skeptical but they are good units. I only have one real problem and that is how they look. They look cheap as shit and the plastics are awful, but I am a totally pedantic fag about that so yeah X_X

Unfortunately, the 'cheap shit' look carries through to the internals of the product as well...........
I have a 32" soniq........ I hate it.

Probably be looking for a new one in a few months (EOFYS anyone?)

Probably around 40". I like the looks of LED, maby a bravia. And one that does 3D. (possibly score a new PS3 out of it too :O)

I don't see how. The one I got has a Samsung panel in it, and with a 5 year warranty it still cost $1000 less than the (assuming newer model) 46" Samsung. I've had no issues with it at all and the picture is fine. You'd have to spend quite a lot more to top it having had a look in the Good Guys at all the others.
as if they look cheap as shit... theyre not bad theyre just average non fancy looking things. you can definitely get shit looking ones on the market and kogans now improved their look of tvs anyway.

LED ones look ok but ours look cheap. The plastic is too shiney and not flat enough. You can see ripples and stuff on it.
On my tv you can really nothice the backlights at the top of the screen when it is dark :/
55" Samsung Series 7 3D for lounge, 42" LG Full HD for bedroom. Eventually will get a 65+" for lounge and the 55" will become bedroom tv
