PSP-1003 UK 2
PSP-1004 Europe 2

FIRMWARE

Firmware is just a name used for software updates. The PSP has had many firmware updates in the past couple of years since its release. Some have been good some just pointless. To get the latest updates you can:

Update using your PSP:

First you need a wireless connection. If your not lucky enough to have a wireless connection at home you can find them at your public library, cafes, computer game shops. Anyway go to the options on your PSP look for the icon that says Network Update select that and set up a connection. Once connected it will find the latest update automatically and ask if you want to download. Once downloaded it will be in the Memory card icon Named GAME in the game list on your PSP. Go into that and start it up (it starts like a game) once in follow the on screen instructions. You should now be running the latest update for your PSP.

Updating using your PC:

Go to Playstation.com and select your PSPs region (not sure? Check above) once there just look for “System software updates” or “System software updates for the PSP” Found it? Download it. Now make a folder named UPDATE take the file you’ve just downloaded and put it in the UPDATE folder. Now you need your PSPs USB cable. Connect the cable to your PSP and plug it in to your PC. On your PSP go to the options and select the icon USB CONNECTION now open (if your PC hasn’t done it for you) the memory card. There’s a few folders but your just looking for the folder named GAME open this folder and put the UPDATE folder in it. Now disconnect your PSP and follow the same steps as above.

Updating using Games:

If all the above was to much for you then you’ll be happy to know that most games come with Firmware updates on them now. The newest games will have the most recent updates.

Custom Firmware’s:

If you know about homebrew then enough said. If you don’t then don’t worry just stick to the official firmware’s.

MEMORY CARDS

Or Memory Stick Duo come in various sizes from the 32mb you get with your PSP to 8gb. The bigger the better. The memory card is a must for all your music, videos, pictures, game demos and save data. Theres been talks lately of a 16gb and even a 32gb memory card maybe coming but not for some time but just think of all that memory! Heres a list of all size Memory Stick Duos to date.

32mb
64mb
128mb
256mb
512mb
1gb
2gb
4gb
8gb

As I said the bigger the better.

PSP GAMES

All PSP games are Region free which means you can play games from any country the only problem is say you get one from Japan its still going to be in Japanese. There are almost region locks on games in a way like you can’t play wireless multiplayer if say I had a game from the US and you had the same game but was from Australia. This also goes for Save Data.

PSP UMD VIDEO

The UMD movie, music and video discs have had a bad run what with almost all production coming to a stop. I think the last couple to be released lately was Casino Royal and soon to be released (if its not out already) is Pirates of The Caribbean game and film UMD set. I think the reason why I hasn’t done as well is due to the fact that you can download films on to your PSP or even convert them yourself.

PSP DEMOS

Since firmware update 2.70 Sony Computer Entertainment and third party game companies have released game demos for the PSP which can be run straight from the memory stick. Theres a big selection of them now a good 20+ PSP-Images Demo's has them all including what firmware is needed and how big the file is.

The PSP is a brilliant piece of kit make the most of it!

I had/have (just has a smashed screen) a PSP 1000 (Jap) and all you need to do is find your way to the options>settings>language and change it to English....It should be as easy as that Hope you get it sorted!

You are on firmware 2.0 or higher so all you need to do is from when you do a full reboot on your PSP is to hit left 4 times to you reach the Settings bar then press down twice then X to get to System settings then finally hit down once then X and you should have successfully opened the Language selection menu. Good luck.

English is second from the top.
Yeah Abuu cool.....but jearic will be pressing cirlcle
Oh. I thought that was only on the Japanese ones.
In the US they press circle to but anyway nice one abuu.
Great one mate.. Just bought a PSP, your guide on downloading and using PSP 9 has been great.. I am truly stoked!

Cheers

Are people in the UK and Aussies the only ones to hit X instead of O then?
Hmmm maybe? I'm not sure.....

iv'e just downloaded the video converter and just installing it to my pc when it ask me which updated version i have. i have a 3.60 and it only goes to 3.50. i've just bought the psp slim qnd just new to the game

Just tell it you have 3.50 then. There isn't much difference in terms of video handling and formats.
I was wondering what that 1001 ment on my PSP.
